Girls Aloud Plan ‘Ten’ Reunion For October 19 & Save Pop Music From Itself

Girls Aloud may be a national treasure in the UK, but they remain almost entirely unknown on this side of the pond, despite being one of the greatest pop acts of the last decade. (That’s an actual scientific fact.) The critically acclaimed, BRIT Award-winning girl group, who notched an unprecedented 20 consecutive Top 10 hits in their home country over the last decade, went on hiatus in 2009 to pursue solo careers Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle and Nicola Roberts all released albums individually, while Kimberley Walsh and Sarah Harding worked on other projects.

A reunion has been rumored for months, and last night they joined Twitter with the official @GirlsAloud handle. This morning, they relaunched their website, alluding to the title “Ten” with a clock counting down from ten days. (The number is significant, given that the band was formed ten years ago.) By that math, fans can expect something big on October 19. Check after the jump to see a handful of very compelling reasons why everyone should be excited about Girls Aloud’s reunion.
