ZZ Ward & Freddie Gibbs Do “Criminal” Live In The Studio: Idolator Premiere

ZZ Ward made a name for herself performing rootsy siren songs over beats from the likes of Wiz Khalifa and Tyler, the Creator. One of her most notable pairings was “Criminal,” which took the haunting organ drones and piano plinks from Freddie Gibbs‘ “Oil Money” and added her simmering vocals — and even featured a verse from Gibbs himself.

For this video, ZZ and Freddie got together in the studio for a stripped-down version of the song. Acoustic strums replace the keys and both performers add a little extra grit to the song in the live setting. “Criminal” first appeared on ZZ Ward’s EP of the same name and is on her debut full-length Til The Casket Drops which…dropped…Tuesday (October 16).
