Idolator Presents: New & Notable With Frank + Derol

For an artist on the rise, those early memories of a first finished song, live performance or well-loved instrument are powerful beyond measure. That’s at the heart of our newest video series, New & Notable, which spotlights up-and-coming musicians by giving them a unique opportunity to make new memories in a place that’s already emotionally significant.

The first act we’re highlighting, the pop duo Frank + Derol, has already made an impressive splash with their self-titled debut EP; the lead single, “Barely Love You Too,” is a delicately hewn pop gem, angelic and hazy, and a string of performances around their native Los Angeles have earned them significant hype. But the band — comprised of Codi Caraco and Brandi Cyrus — are bigger than their buzz. If many artists hide behind a sheen of production polish, hearing Frank + Derol sing acoustically reveals their keen songcraft and haunting, unfiltered vocals.

With the help of Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, Idolator accompanied Frank + Derol to Gibson Guitars in Los Angeles, where they told us about their creative process before performing a luminous, stripped-down version of “Barely Love You Too.” Watch the video above.
