They’ve come along way from the snark days of Simon Cowell. Perhaps in order to compete with the more upbeat vibe of The Voice, American Idol is similarly going the dream-come-true route with its new advertisements, which might sound a tad more genuine if we didn’t suspect there were about fifteen well-trained security guards separating Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey at all times. (Notice how they don’t appear in any shots together?)“To all the dreamers,” Mariah says earnestly to camera.
“To anyone who thought they’d never have a chance,” Nicki says — shortly before lunging for Mariah’s throat, we imagine.
Really, this commercial only makes us feel like we should go out and buy a PC or something, since it’s so un-Idol.
This one goes out to all the dreamers who need to believe that they, too, will have a shot at having a major diva catfight with Mariah Carey someday.
