Theatricality was the word at last night’s MTV Europe Music Awards in Frankfurt, Germany, with over-the-top performances and fashions from an elite crowd of the music industry’s biggest global superstars, and also Kim Kardashian, who wore a dress with a big long train on the red carpet because it’s Kim Kardashian and that’s just what she does.

With host Heidi Klum wearing no less than six outfits over the course of the evening, and the usually demure Taylor Swift closing the show with a circus-themed performance of “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” the show was high-octane, and high-drama. (And by “high-drama,” we mean that Swift was spotted talking to Lana Del Rey on the red carpet, which is pretty much the most exciting thing we can imagine. Swift: “Your what tastes like Pepsi-Cola?”) Read the full winners’ list and watch all the performances from Carly Rae Jepsen, PSYRita OraAlicia KeysPitbullThe KillersNo Doubtfun. and Muse after the jump.

The big winners of the night were Swift and Justin Bieber, who each took home three awards — Swift for Best Female, Best Live and Best Look, and Bieber (who was not in attendance) for Best Male, Best Pop and Best World Stage. Jepsen was also honored, winning Best Song for “Call Me Maybe,” and PSY took home an award for “Gangnam Style,” nabbing Best Video.
