Idolator Presents: New & Notable With Kitten

For the latest video in our New & Notable series, we’re spotlighting young Los Angeles band Kitten. Earlier this year, they released their Cut It Out EP, which deftly combines the melodic jolt of synth-pop with the nebulous sonic waves of shoegaze. And it’s all tied together with singer Chloe Chaidez‘s vocals, likewise fluctuating between playful pop and ethereality. Chaidez is just 17 years old, but she’s an old soul, writing songs that ache with nostalgia and that draw from an impressive array of influences like David BowieThe Smiths and fellow nostalgics M83.

With the help of Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, Idolator joined Kitten in Pasadena as the band made a new memory in a place full of old ones: the converted-garage studio that Chloe’s dad built for the band. Ahead of their December 4 opening slot for No Doubt, Chaidez discussed her songwriting philosophy for us and the band put together a stirring performance of “Christina.” Watch it up top.
