Kanye West, Alicia Keys & Chris Martin Perform At ‘12.12.12: The Concert For Sandy Relief’: Watch

Last night’s Hurricane Sandy telethon, 12.12.12: The Concert For Sandy Relief, was kind of insane, wasn’t it? Charity benefit concerts usually are, in their slapdash everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach to talent, but this one leaned heavily toward classic rock (not our beat) — which made it even more curious (and awesome) when Kanye West delivered a 10-song set wearing a leather kilt that you probably can’t buy at DASH Miami. (Not that we’d try.)

But, well, the more the merrier, and they raised a ton of much-needed money for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, so thanks, all the important rock artists of the last century! Also, Sky Ferreira was there answering phones, which is the opposite of everything being embarrassing.

In addition to West’s leather skirt and rapid-fire set of hits (“Mercy,” “Clique,” “Power,” “Jesus Walks,” “All of the Lights,” “Diamonds,” “Gold Digger,” “Runaway” and “Stronger”), Alicia Keys performed “Brand New Me,” “No One” and closed the show with “Empire State of Mind, Pt. 2,” all of which was lovely and touching and pushed all the right buttons. Coldplay star Chris Martin performed the weepy ballads “Viva La Vida” and “Us Against the World,” probably because the literal implications of “Fix You” would have hit too close to home, then duetted with Michael Stipe on “Losing My Religion” because YOLO.

Did we mention that Sky Ferreira was answering phones?
