‘Les Miserables’ Soundtrack Takes Center Stage On The Album Chart
It took an all-star cast with the likes of Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Amanda Seyfried to topple Taylor Swift‘s mighty Red on the album chart. The “I Knew You Were Trouble” country-pop singer slides down to #3 on Billboard‘s Top 200 after six non-consecutive weeks on top, and is replaced by the Les Miserables soundtrack.
It’s not the first time a hit film’s accompanying music has taken up residence in the peak position on the album chart after the holiday season. Recent years have seen the soundtracks to movies like Juno and Dreamgirls head to top in January, when big album releases are typically few and far between.
In fact, the Les Miserables soundtrack caps the chart with 92,000 copies sold — “the weakest week at #1 since the Sept. 15 chart, when tobyMac‘s “Eye On It” bowed atop the list with 69,000,” notes Billboard chart operator Keith Caulfield.
Elsewhere, titles like Mumford & Sons‘ Babel (#2), Phillip Phillips‘ The World From The Other Side Of The Moon (#4), Alicia Keys‘ Girl On Fire (#9) and Pink‘s The Truth About Love benefit from a recent iTunes sale, and move up the chart accordingly.
It all has us anxious now more than ever for 2013’s high-profile releases to come our way.
