MS MR’s “Fantasy”: Watch The Brilliant, Glitter-Puking Clip

Ah, our obsession with New York-based alt-pop duo MS MR reaches previously unknown heights with the release of the music video for their new single, “Fantasy,” a tense, brooding stormer with a hypnotic chorus. The pair — lead singer Lizzy Plapinger and producer Max Hershenow — are channeling dark Lynchian weirdness in “Fantasy,” trading pointed glances from across a diner as cheerleaders vomit glitter in the parking lot outside and, in one haunting sequence, Plapinger sings framed by a chorus of silent senior citizens.

It’s easy to see the link between MS MR and their onetime tour companion Marina and the Diamonds in how both acts subvert iconic images of Americana, but while Marina’s aesthetic is all camp, there’s something more appealingly and likably sinister about MS MR’s vibe. If it’s any indication, their debut LP Second Hand Rapture, which hits retailers May 14, should be an absolute monster.
