Drake To Hit The Studio With TLC’s T-Boz

Drake is an unabashed TLC fan (you might even say stan, as he went to eBay to acquire one of the first TLC shirt designs ever produced, and covered their song “Fan Mail” as “I Get Lonely Too”). And it turns out the trio’s leading lady T-Boz is a fan of Drizzy’s, too. She sat down with Rap-Up and told them, “I think Drake is awesome. He’s so talented. He’s one of the special ones.” In fact, their mutual fandom has led to T-Boz hitting the studio with Drake and his right-hand man Noah “40” Shebib in a few days.

“I think he would write perfect for my tone because he sings in that register that I sing in,” she said. Plus, it’s a pretty natural sonic partnership: Aaliyah (with whom Drake is also obsessed) and TLC’s 1999 album FanMail both embraced that sort of alien, sterile R&B production that discarded the “sex you up” warmth of their peers, and that template has been amplified and warped by Drake, The Weeknd and others in recent years. We’re excited to hear what they come up with together.
