J. Cole & Miguel Team Up On “Power Trip”: Listen
J. Cole has unveiled “Power Trip,” his collaboration with Miguel from his forthcoming Born Sinner LP. Unlike the last album cut we heard — the thumping rant that was “Miss America” — this one is all head-bobbing cool.
“Power Trip” starts with some throwback soul and a retro flute loop, with Miguel singing, “She got me up all night,” and sounding fittingly tired (we mean that in a good way). Then comes the gummy bass line, turning the song into a nimble display of retro-futurism, as Cole raps about a woman who has him under her (possibly nefarious) spell.
