Kylie Minogue And Mum’s “Whistle”: Listen To The ‘Jack And Diane’ Soundtrack Song

Throughout her career, Kylie Minogue has always demonstrated an ability to turn out a quirky collaboration (see: “Where The Wild Roses Grow” with Nick Cave, “GBI (German Bold Italic)” with Deee-Lite‘s Towa Tei, “Devotion” with Hurts and “We Are One” with Japanese rapper VERBAL). Now she can add experimental electronic act mum to her dance card, following their pair-up on Jack And Diane soundtrack song “Whistle” (incidentally, not a cover of a Flo Rida hit).

Kylie Minogue with mum — “Whistle”

The creepy romantic film, which stars Juno Temple and Kylie herself, was released last year, but “Whistle” just received an official single release on iTunes.

As you can hear, the touching track itself is all mum, with the Icelandic band offering up electric squiggles and glitches swathed in strings as Minogue’s breathy voice coos lines like, “Forget the pain and whistle at the rain, because I’m friends with the girls again.”

All in all, a moving oddity and interesting addition to the singer’s extensive and ever-evolving catalog. Not nearly enough, however, to tide us over until her next studio album. Let’s get to it, Kylie!
