Howard Stern Sides With Kelly Clarkson In Clive Davis Feud

Howard Stern has some opinions regarding the Clive Davis vs. Kelly Clarkson feud — and they don’t weigh in Clive’s favor. The shock jock took to his radio show on Wednesday (February 21st) to vocalize his thoughts on Davis’ insulting Clarkson’s songwriting ability in his recent memoir The Soundtrack Of My Life.

“I always find it sickening when management guys like to set the record straight about how f–king creative and what geniuses they are,” Stern said on the air. “I think [Clarkson] has an amazing voice, and the girl has worked hard to get to where she is. I don’t understand Clive Davis’ motivation for knocking this chick down.” Stern added that why can’t Clive just tell his story without having to knock Kelly down?

This conflict arose upon the release of Davis’ brutally open memoir, where he uses profanities to describe Kelly’s songwriting, and even notes moments of “hysterical sobbing” on her part when she wasn’t pleased with album decisions. Kelly then turned around and wrote an open letter challenging the music executive’s account. (Among other points, she attacks Davis for accusing her of failing to write any “pop hits” on My December, a project she says Davis “sabotaged”.) She also adds that her “hysterical sobbing” arose from Clive’s degrading words regarding her music — criticism made even tougher considering that she had considered him a “musical hero”.

It’s nice to know an industry veteran like Howard Stern sides with Kelly. “This guy’s trying to diminish what she does?” Stern asked on Wednesday. “Doesn’t [Davis] have enough in life?” Good question.
