Jay-Z, Mariah Carey Crash Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def Anniversary Party
Jermaine Dupri‘s iconic hip-hop label So So Def turns 20 this month. To celebrate, Jay-Z and Mariah Carey crashed its anniversary concert in Atlanta — what was already a star-studded affair, thanks to appearances by Nelly and Ludacris.
Last night (February 23), Hov gave thanks to the producer with a brief set: He launched into The Black Album‘s “Public Service Announcement,” then “Paris.” Dupri challenged him to “Jigga What, Jigga Who (Originator 99),” but instead, Jay-Z opted for his verse in “Clique.” (Could he hear Kanye West from London?)
Fellow Atlanta native Usher also performed a greatest hits medley of sorts, and to close the evening, longtime Dupri collaborator Mariah Carey wheeled out a cake and squealed at the sight of So So Def’s own Da Brat. As Dupri once rapped himself, “Welcome to Atlanta, where the playas play.”
