One Direction Might Record With The Jackson Brothers, Says Least Famous Jackson Brother

Jermaine Jackson (er, Jacksun?) is reuniting with his brothers Tito, Marlon and Jackie for a tour as The Jacksons, which was the name taken by The Jackson 5 in their later years just before Michael split for good. Performing in the UK this week, the no-longer-boy band naturally was asked about the current crop of British boy bands. “[One Direction] remind me of ourselves so much when we were younger,” eldest brother Jackie told the Daily Star, before adding, “I got some songs for them to record too so we’ll be in touch real soon.”

Would a collaboration between the surviving members of The Jackson 5 and the biggest current boy band in the world be exciting? Surely. In fact, 1D cover “Man in the Mirror,” so we already know they can handle Jackson material. But, really, this doesn’t sound all that promising. As MTV points out, Jackie wasn’t responsible for any of the Jackson 5’s hits, and he only contributed a couple songwriting credits to The Jackson’s 1977 album Goin’ Places. But hey, maybe 1D will answer Jackie’s call and they’ll get together and some cross-generational magic will happen. Would a studio version of their MJ cover be too much to ask?
