Travis Garland may have his roots in the boy band world, but he’s channeling the new crop of innovative R&B leading men — think Miguel and Frank Ocean — on his new EP, Fashionably Late II. Kicking off with the lead single “Where to Land,” a sexy and sultry jam, the EP goes in all the expected directions, but doesn’t ever disappoint: “Homewrecker” feels like a sequel to Justin Timberlake‘s “Cry Me a River,” while the dreamily romantic “Blue Electric Roses” sees Garland using his falsetto to gorgeous effect.

Produced by the Stereotypes (Justin Bieber, Chris Brown), Fashionably Late II suggests that the best is still yet to come from Garland, since what he managed to pull off without major label support is mighty impressive. Stream the EP in full over at the Los Angeles Times.
