Major Lazer & Ezra Koenig Dial It Back For “Jessica”: Listen

One of the most anticipated collaborations on Major Lazer‘s forthcoming collabo-heavy Free the Universe is “Jessica” with Vampire Weekend‘s Ezra Koenig. O.G. Koenig fans may have hoped that for this track he would dip back into his bag of college tricks and rap over some bombastic Diplo beat, but that’s not what the braintrust has drawn up. Instead, we get a hazy slice of dub that, like lead single “Get Free,” shows Diplo eschewing the dancehall clatter in favor of languid atmospherics.

The Vampire Weekend frontman’s falsetto is blanketed in a haze of reverb and delay as he sings about “me Jessica, me Yessica,” over a simple, space-tinged reggae beat. Free the Universe is out on April 15, and features cameos from Bruno Mars, Santigold and more. Check out the latest cut below.
