WTF: David Bowie Photo Swapped Out With Rick Astley For Upcoming Morrissey Single Re-Release

With the release of David Bowie‘s The Next Day tomorrow (March 12), we couldn’t skip over the recent news that the Thin White Duke reportedly nixed Morrissey using a unseen photo of the two English artists together for the upcoming April 18 re-release of Morrissey’s 1989 single “The Last Of The Famous International Playboys.” And given Moz’s recent public comments about Paul McCartney and Beyonce, we’re sure he’ll dish out a quip or two regarding Bowie at some point.

In the meantime, Morrissey opted for the next best thing: a photo of he and ’80s pop star/current day Internet meme icon Rick Astley together. Blog Slicing Up Eyballs noted in 2010 that the pic of the two was snapped in February 1989 during a taping of UK music program Top Of The Pops, when Morrissey was doing promo for “The Last Of The Famous International Playboys” the first time around. Rick Astley, on the other hand, was just there being awesome.
