Chris Brown & Rihanna Are Definitely Still A Thing, Sorry To Crush Your Dreams

Chris Brown continues his media rehabilitation tour this week, this morning (March 29) appearing on L.A.’s Power 106 to talk Rihanna, Frank Ocean and the new album. During the interview, the radio station tweeted that Breezy was asked if he’s still with Rihanna, and that he responded, “Uh, no. That’s the short answer.” And once that tweet hit, the clouds split open and angels chanted from on high and everyone lived happily ever after.

But yeah, that’s bunk, kiddos. They’re still together. Sorry to ruin your weekend. It was a deft use of social media buzz by Power 106, but in the interview we watched, it was pretty clear they’re still together. Brown talked about flying out to see RiRi on tour and smiled coyly when asked about taking Twitpics with her. Not to mention Brown spoke to Ryan Seacrest earlier this week about how he and RiRi “try to keep it fun” and avoid stuffy, date-y things like candlelit dinners. If anything, the answer was just another vague tactic in their whole game of being conspicuously inconspicuous and dangling their rekindled relationship in front of the media.

In fact, the more notable thing about today’s radio chat (the highlights/lowlights of which you can watch below) is just how sycophantic all these interviewers have been with Brown (et tu, Seacrest?).

Every time Breezy is hooked up to a mic these days, the room is filled with guffaws, the media personalities stroking him and acting like they “respect” him for taking his lumps and for using these opportunities as teachable moments. Just STAHP. In this very interview, Brown was asked point blank about the Frank Ocean brawl, and he gave the Mark McGwire “I’m not here to talk about the past” crap, saying that he is just “focused on the music” and he “respects all people.” It was the most mendacious and lazy of question-dodging, cop-out answers. And yet seconds later, Big Boy lauds him for it!

“What I love about you is you recognize, I haven’t seen you throw anything away like, ‘Woe is me.’ You’ve been owning up to what it is and ‘I gotta learn from it’ and ‘I can’t erase it so I gotta live with it.'” Was he not in the room for that answer seconds earlier wherein Brown did the exact opposite of “owning up”?

With all due respect to Big Boy — and to anyone else buying into these conveniently-timed-before-his-album-release displays of maturity — what fucking planet are you on? Watch the relevant clips below.
