Beyonce To Cover Amy Winehouse’s “Back To Black” With Andre 3000 For ‘Great Gatsby’ Soundtrack
Any Beyonce news is good news, but this latest Beyonce news is particularly good news. E! Online reports that the superstar will be contributing a song to the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann‘s upcoming adaptation of The Great Gatsby: A cover of Amy Winehouse‘s “Back to Black,” with assistance from rapper Andre 3000. (Given that Jay-Z is executive producing the soundtrack, it should come as no surprise that Bey is involved — not that she’s just his little wife or anything. Gulp.)
In Bey and ‘Dre’s hands, the noirish midtempo is being reimagined as a duet: “It’s a very different take on ‘Back to Black,'” a source at the label said. It also reunites the two, who worked together on Beyonce’s 2011 single “Party.”
Expect their cover to do several things: 1) Honor Winehouse’s legacy; 2) Fit the nostalgic tone of Gatsby, which is set in the 1920s; and 3) Be amazing.
