When Brad Paisley and LL Cool J talked about their new song “Accidental Racist,” they emphasized that it aimed to start a conversation, albeit one that began, “If you don’t judge my gold chains, I’ll forget the iron chains.” On Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update featuring the newfound collaborators, “LL Cool J” (Kenan Thompson) reconsidered those very lines: “Did I say that? Hmm. Kind of sounded different when I said it to my MacBook.”

The revelation came after “LL” and “Brad Paisley” (Jason Sudeikis, in yet another winning role as a country star) credited themselves for having cured racism and then explained the conversations they aimed to start, as the actual LL and Paisley did on The Tonight Show. “Now, country music is about stories, okay? So what I wanted to do was show folks the gritty, racial reality of a man in Starbucks talking to his barista,” “Paisley” said.

“And I wanted to tell the story of a rapper, you know what I’m saying, who has to get his name about there because he has a new album about to drop,” “LL” said. Watch the SNL clip up top.
