Rita Ora & Snoop Lion Team Up For “Torn Apart”: Listen

Look: We weren’t really fans of having Rita Ora aggressively shoved down our throats for the last year, either, and the indignity of having to update all of our tags after Snoop Dogg changed his name to Snoop Lion is still stinging, and why is he doing this whole Caribbean thing anyway? It’s all a mess. But! A good song is a good song, and there’s something really likable about the collaboration between Snoop and Rita on the rapper’s upcoming LP Reincarnatedwhich sees the two duetting over a Major Lazer-produced track about, y’know, heartbreak and stuff.

The two shot the video back in January on location in Thailand (where they went HAM on the ‘Gram showing off how much fun they were having!) — and the clip has yet to be unveiled — but the song itself fits nicely with the chilled-out, rasta-inflected sound introduced on Snoop’s Miley Cyrus duet “Ashtrays & Heartbreaks.” “Torn Apart” is a little more energetic, and Ora’s vocal is surprisingly emotive, contrasting with the spunky bounce of the instrumental, but they work nicely as counterparts.

Maybe this was the right sound for Snoop all along. Listen below.
