Bruno Mars‘ mother, Bernadette Hernandez, died Saturday at age 55 in Hawaii. She died of a brain aneurysm at Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, according to an Atlantic Records publicist.

Mars has yet to comment publicly on his mother’s death, but as of this morning, his most recent Facebook post has received more than 2,000 replies from fans expressing their condolences.

A hulu dancer and singer, Hernandez was one of many performers in Mars’ family. At his mother’s encouragement, and before he even started kindergarten, Mars began performing as an Elvis impersonator before he led his family band the Love Notes.

At age 4, Mars recorded an ’80s-inspired ballad titled “I Love You Mom.” In the song he thanks her for her support and lists how he shows her respect: “I only brush my teeth because my mommy said / I do it in the morning and right before bed.” Hear the song after the jump.
