Rockie Fresh Reps Chicago In “God Is Great” Video: Watch

Maybach Music’s media blitz continues with another video for a Self Made 3 track. Earlier today (June 4) we saw Wale, Rick Ross and Lupe Fiasco decrying the ills of the city in their “Poor Decisions” video, and now we’ve got MMG up-and-comer Rockie Fresh on the flipside, celebrating his city of Chicago and giving thanks in the “God Is Great” video. The 22-year-old MC surely has plenty to be thankful for — the backing of Rick Ross, production from Boi-1da, touring with Fall Out Boy‘s Patrick Stump — and he hasn’t even released a debut album yet.

As you can tell from the cloudy sonics of this track, Rockie has more in common with Kid Cudi‘s spacey introspection than he does with MMG’s blunt boasts-and-bass formula. The young rapper explored all kinds of sounds on his Electric Highway mixtape — including sampling Purity Ring and Tycho — and the fact that Rozay brought him into the fold shows that the bawse is committed to making MMG a player in the more experimental corner of contemporary hip-hop.

We suspect some big things are on the way for Rockie Fresh, and this is as good a starting point as any to familiarize yourself with his music.
