Janelle Monae’s ‘The Electric Lady’ To Feature Prince & Miguel: Plus, See Her ‘Billboard’ Cover

Janelle Monae covers the new issue of Billboard, and she revealed to the mag that her new album will feature Prince and Miguel. This is very exciting! Those high profile cameos, of course, are in addition to The Electric Lady‘s fierce “Q.U.E.E.N.” feature from Erykah Badu.

As with the Badu collaboration, the Prince track came about through friendship. “We are great friends, and he is a mentor to us, to me,” Monae said of the Purple One. “It’s not every day that he collaborates. I’m honored and humbled that he trusted me. He is forever my friend, and I am forever indebted. I can’t say too much else about it.” She didn’t reveal the Prince track’s name, but the Miguel cut is called “Primetime,” and it’s a “love duet” that interpolates Pixies‘ “Where Is My Mind?” That is also very exciting!

Miguel is on a hot streak with collaborations recently, appearing on J. Cole‘s “Power Trip” and Mariah Carey‘s “#Beautiful,” both of which are serious contenders for Song of the Summer. Meanwhile, Prince has been releasing a steady trickle of new music with his new all-female backing band, 3rd Eye Girl.
