Rick Rubin Hints At Sequel To Kanye West’s ‘Yeezus’
Rick Rubin, co-executive producer of Kanye West‘s ferocious Yeezus, spoke with The Daily Beast about the mad dash to finish up that album (someone’s gotta tell the story, and we know Kanye won’t). In addition to saying they were in panic mode (“We ended up working probably 15 days, 16 days, long hours, no days off, 15 hours a day. I was panicked the whole time.”), Rubin coyly indicated that there’s more material from the Yeezus sessions that could end up on a second album — Justin Timberlake-style.
“Initially, [West] thought there were going to be 16 songs on the album,” Rubin said. “But that first day, before he even asked me to work on it, I said, ‘Maybe you should make it more concise. Maybe this is two albums. Maybe this is just the first half.’ That was one of the first breakthroughs.” When asked, then, if that meant there could be “another Yeezus in the pipeline,” Rubin responded, “Might be.”
Suggested title for the sequel: Khrist.
