Selena Gomez’s “Sad Serenade”: Hear The Leaked ‘Stars Dance’ Song

“Sure, I knew people would talk about it. But I can’t be afraid to live my life,” Selena Gomez recently said to The Guardian. She was speaking of her high-profile love life, involving first-ever boyfriend Nick Jonas and fellow #heartbreaker Justin Bieber. And in the newly leaked “Sad Serenade” (off her debut album Stars Dance), she stays true to her new outlook and airs her grievances.

While the mid-tempo “Love Will Remember” set the tone with a voicemail from Justin Bieber — whether it’s real or staged, it’s hard to tell — the pumping dance beat of “Sad Serenade” sounds tailor-made for her forthcoming arena tour and washes away some of the tension from the song’s first minute.

“Happier times flash through my mind / we both say it’s over, and I believe it this time / all the pain that I hide, I let it play through the night,” Gomez sings to a steady piano, building anticipation before she kicks off the anthemic chorus.

While “Love Will Remember” is a song for wallowing, “Sad Serenade” is one for the aftermath — stepping outside the house as a newly single person, still frustrated but ready to move on.
