Jay-Z’s ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ Becomes His First #1 Album In The UK

As if the various accolades rolling in for Jay-Z‘s latest Magna Carta Holy Grail weren’t enough, the rapper has a fine new feather in his cap: The new LP landed him the first UK #1 of his career, as the record took the top spot on the British charts, ousting last week’s #1 (Mumford & Sons‘ Babel, still slaying all these weeks later, now at #5) and Rod Stewart‘s Time, which came in at #2. (Exact sales figures weren’t yet available.)

The Hollywood Reporter notes that prior to MCHG, Jay-Z’s top-performing solo LP was Blueprint III in 2009, which went to #4; Watch The Throne with Kanye West went to #3 in 2011. (That’s surprising, isn’t it?)

Given that he performed in London over the weekend, there’s probably more than ever to celebrate on that side of the pond.
