Annie Teases New EPs, Debuts Synth Stunner “Hold On”: Listen

Enigmatic Norwegian songbird Annie is heading into an all-new era after a too-long hiatus: She already unveiled the lead single, the Little Boots-penned “Back Together,” off her upcoming A&R EP with Richard X (isn’t all of this just a pop nerd’s dream?), and now another new track has been premiered.

This one, “Hold On,” is another synth-drenched ’80s gem that’s nothing short of masterful; as Popjustice notes, it was penned by the great Hannah Robinson, who’s written more than her share of great songs (much of Annie’s catalogue, as well as tracks for Ladyhawke, Kylie Minogue, Rachel Stevens and Icona Pop). Like many of Robinson’s other contributions, “Hold On” has a sparkly bounce to it that’s totally irresistible.

Even better, though, than a new Annie song, is the promise of lots of new Annie songs, which is exactly what she’s given fans via a new interview with Noisey. When asked about her longer-term plans, Annie insisted that there’s more music on its way: “I already have so much new music now,” she said, “and I’m gonna come out with another EP. I really love making EPs because I make so much music and sometimes the songs don’t fit too well together so I’m better at creating an EP with five or six songs than putting out an album. I’m definitely going to come out with two more EPs ASAP.”

And that, folks, is all I need to sustain myself today.

Listen to “Hold On” below.
