Jay-Z and Beyonce appeared at a New York rally supporting Trayvon Martin, one of hundreds that sprung up in the United States on July 20. As Beyonce’s mother Tina Knowles trailed behind, the hip-hop couple marched with the crowd before watching Martin’s mother Sabrina Fulton (above, second from right) address the crowd.

These rallies arrive one week after George Zimmerman was found not guilty for the 2012 death of Martin. The day of the verdict, Beyonce held a moment of silence for Martin to help conclude her Mrs. Carter Show concert in Nashville. Just a few days later, as they kicked off the Legends of the Summer tour, Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake dedicated the former’s “Young Forever” to the slain teenager. The protests also took off after the Department of Justice decided to review Zimmerman’s contentious case, following his acquittal. Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus took to Twitter to protest the verdict, while Atlanta rappers like Young Jeezy quickly wrote and released tribute songs online and on local radio.
