Bonnie McKee’s “American Girl” Video: Watch The Candy-Colored Clip

Bonnie McKee is many things — a pop star in training, the scribe behind many of the biggest hits of the last few years, and the next big starlet on the rise — and she’s also very much an American girl in the just-released video for her song of the same name.

Far from the pop star-heavy lip dub clip that she used to premiere the track, this video relies heavy on quintessentially American imagery: Bonnie tearing it up at a 7/11, where she does indeed fall in love (with a slurpee)? Check. Heart-shaped American flag sungalsses? Check. Pool party? Check. Red Corvette? Obviously.

More than anything, it reminds me of Ke$ha‘s debut video — for “TiK ToK” — which had a similar free-spirited vibe, even if Bonnie’s isn’t quite as rowdy. It feels like a proper debut from a proper pop star. Might be time to take those metaphorical training wheels off, in fact.

Watch up top.
