Jordin Sparks Debuts New Song “Skipping A Beat”: Listen To The Cute Urban-Pop Tune

Jordin Sparks posted a new song on SoundCloud this morning (August 1) called “Skipping A Beat” and it’s very, very good. But what about that promised Jason Derulo duet “Before It Breaks”, I hear you ask? Your guess is as good as mine. I don’t know if the American Idol winner is going for dual lead singles (à la Beyonce‘s “If I Were A Boy” and “Single Ladies”) or just teasing with this tune. In any case, it should be a single!

“Skipping A Beat” is an infectious mid-tempo pop song with urban roots — think Ariana Grande‘s “The Way” with an edge — that seems to be an ode to her man. “You’re my lover, you’re my friend, you’re my gangsta,” she purrs over tinny synths and piano. It takes a couple of listens but the multitude of hooks pull you in and before you’re singing along. Always the sign of a great pop song. Listen after the jump.
