Daft Punk To Perform At MTV VMAs, Cancel ‘Colbert Report’ Gig: Watch Robin Thicke Fill In

Daft Punk were scheduled to perform “Get Lucky” on The Colbert Report last night (August 6) as part of StePhest Colbchella, but as Colbert announced on the show, the Robots had to “cancel.” See, they’re scheduled for a “surprise” performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards later this month, and thus the Colbert gig would breach their agreement with MTV. The host claims he only found out two hours before the show, and playfully said he’d been Daft Punk’d by MTV — Ashton Kutcher even came out to drive the point home. Luckily, Colbert had this elaborate, pre-produced “Get Lucky” video segment featuring a ton of celebrities to fill the air (which you can see below). It’s almost like…like this was all planned!

On the plus side: Robin Thicke performed “Blurred Lines,” and, oh right, Daft Punk are playing the VMAs! Watch Thicke up top.

The MTV Video Music Awards air live from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on August 25. Daft Punk joins previously announced performers Lady Gaga and Kanye West.
