While perhaps not quite as a prestigious as a Grammy or Billboard Music Award, taking home a trophy at the Teen Choice Awards is still the ultimate measure of popularity in the all-important youth demographic. And that market matters more than ever with an unprecedented crop of fabulous former-child stars making their mark on popular music in 2013.

Has Miley Cyrus scared off the kids with her sexy new image? Will Demi Lovato‘s personal woes swing votes her way or does lovable girl-next-door Selena Gomez have it in the bag? Those questions and more will be answered on Sunday (August 11) on Fox. With major bragging rights at stake, it pays for fans to be prepared — and that’s where we come in. Think of this post as your CliffsNotes guide to the 2013 Teen Choice Awards.

YOUR HOSTS FOR THE NIGHT

The honor of hosting the 2013 Teen Choice Awards goes to Glee star Darren Criss and Pretty Little Liars starlet Lucy Hale. It will be interesting to see how Darren approaches his former co-star Cory Monteith‘s death. Surely he will address the tragedy with a verbal tribute (at the very least)?

MOST-NOMINATED ARTISTS

Retro-R&B king Bruno Mars leads the field this year with a staggering eight nominations. Next up is the ever-popular Taylor Swift with seven nods. However, she fill face stiff competition from Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus and One Direction — they all have six shots at glory.

THE PERFORMERS

This year’s roster is something of a mixed-bag. Teen icons Demi Lovato and One Direction are no-brainers but the country-urban fusion of Florida Georgia Line and Nelly is a surprise. Paramore will also get the Gibson Amphitheater rocking with a typically electric performance. Here’s the full line-up:

*One Direction *Florida Georgia Line and Nelly *Demi Lovato *Paramore

THE STORYLINES

The big story this year is the battle of the Disney divas. Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez have all had huge commercial breakthroughs in 2013. All three have scored top 10 hits and Selena even bagged a number one album. This comes down to who has the most militant fans and it will be fascinating to see how it all unfolds. Fingers crossed they each take home at least one gong or Twitter will melt.

Two Justins face off on Sunday night. Does Justin Timberlake still have the teen market in his perfectly-tailored pocket or has the baton been passed to Justin Bieber? Those gents face off in a number of big categories like Best Male Artist and Choice Single: Male Artist. JT also faces competition from rival Robin Thicke in the Summer Music Star: Male category. You can bet he wants to win that one.

It will also be interesting to see who wins Choice Summer Tour. Particularly when you consider that husband and wife Jay Z and Beyonce do battle in that category. Former couple Taylor Swift and Harry Styles also face off for that trophy, so there will be resentment whoever wins!

THE QUESTIONS

*Will Taylor Swift give Justin Bieber another death stare backstage? *How will Selena Gomez cope with the very public reunion with her ex-boyfriend if he shows? *Does Jay Z even know he’s nominated? *Which Disney diva will reign supreme on the night? *When will Miley Cyrus crash the stage and show off her famous twerking moves? *Can Ariana Grande upstage her more famous rivals by snatching a couple of trophies? *Who invited Bridgit Mendler?
