Megan & Liz Get A Little Dark For “In The Shadows Tonight” Video: Watch

Pop’s favorite fraternal twin sister duo (sorry, but that’s an absolute truth) Megan & Liz went from YouTube queens to proper pop stars earlier this summer with their Max Martin-helmed single “Release You,” the first from their upcoming LP Look What You Started. Now the second offering from that release has surfaced, and it’s a mighty radio stormer.

Penned by the sisters Mace themselves and produced by John Fields, “In The Shadows Tonight” is entirely different from the power pop of “Release You” but no less impressive: It’s swoony adult-contemporary pop-rock with a country-inflected chorus that soars marvelously; like the last Cassadee Pope single or the slicker pop-rock elements of Taylor Swift‘s back catalogue, “Shadows” is fresh and trend-free with an instant earworm of a melody.

Of perhaps equal importance, the video is gorgeous — slickly produced (mostly of glamour shots of the two girls), they’ve nailed the styling without going so high-concept that it will alienate their DIY fanbase.

Meanwhile, Liz has continued to nail her “enigmatic out-of-touch-with-reality diva” persona on Twitter:

All hail the true queens of pop.
