*NSYNC Join Twitter, Pretty Much Confirm VMAs Reunion Again
*NSYNC joined Twitter on August 24, one day prior to its rumored (but also confirmed) reunion at the MTV Video Music Awards. Like Prince, the boy band — Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone and Lance Bass — treated its first-ever tweet like a mic check: “…. is this thing on?!”
While Bass refused to confirm or deny the reunion, Joseph Fatone Sr., Joey Fatone‘s father, said that *NSYNC will indeed perform at tonight’s awards show. “I don’t even know what has gone into this performance. … I plead the fifth,” Fatone Sr., said. “I would suggest that you tell all your readers and everyone on the Internet, all your social media, tell them to watch!” But while *NSYNC’s Twitter debut seems to back what Fatone says, but it also may signal something bigger.
Artists like Prince and Kanye West join (and in West’s case, re-starts) Twitter in anticipation of new music; signing up (and getting verified) just for a one-night reunion gig seems unnecessary. Justin Timberlake joined Instagram to signal the glittering comeback that was third album The 20/20 Experience. and back in 2006, *NSYNC shut down its website before it finally confirmed the group’s break-up.
For now, what matters is that *NSYNC follows Lady Gaga on Twitter. Check out their page, then below, re-visit a few hints of what to expect: *NSYNC’s VMA performances of “Bye Bye Bye” and “Pop” (featuring Michael Jackson, sigh), plus Timberlake‘s debut live gig as a solo artist.
