Ciara Makes Mesh Look Luxe On ‘Paper’ Mag Cover

Ciara wears a sequin-dotted mesh top for the latest issue with Paper, and she does so to prove a point: she still loves to toy with androgyny, but in a new way.

“I don’t wear a dress regularly, but even if I do, you have to put some attitude into it,” Ciara says to writer Michael Musto in the accompanying writeup. “I like a leather skirt, which gives you some toughness, but a feminine touch too. I like the androgynous thing with a hard edge: I make things rock ‘n’ roll — but still pretty.”

Like The FADER, Paper takes care to list the R&B singer’s everyday basics (t-shirts, jean shorts, combat boots) in order to contrast her no-nonsense uniform against her latest, self-titled (and very good) album (which contains songs like romp “I’m Out” and the smoldering “Body Party”).

Musto seems slightly in awe of how Ciara’s opened herself up, in both these songs and with regards to boyfriend Future. However, re-watching her 2004 “Goodies” video makes it easy to see how she hasn’t changed completely, but has instead embraced who she is all the more, like any woman can.

Again, just look at her mesh top — the Ciara of Goodies would have rocked that, too. Read the rest of Ciara’s cover story at PaperMag.com.
