Shortly after Justin Timberlake‘s comeback single “Suit & Tie” dropped, Kanye West was quick to offer up his review, telling a London crowd, “I got love for Hov, but I ain’t fuckin’ with that ‘Suit & Tie.'” JT answered shade with shade when he performed the track on Saturday Night Live the following month, changing one lyric to “My hit’s so sick, got rappers acting dramatic.” The sly blink-and-you’ll-miss-it response sparked a bunch of “Justin and Kanye have beef!” buzz, but Timberlake told Jimmy Fallon days later that he “absolutely loves” Kanye. And now, over VMAs weekend, the two guys sat down for about an hour in New York City to officially bury the hatchet and talk about potential collaborations.

“[The diss] was one of them things where I love it, in a way, because at the end of the day it’s just music,” JT said on Sway Calloway‘s radio show. “I respect his opinion because I think he’s a genius. But I don’t share that opinion. It’s just not that big a deal.” In terms of a collaboration, Yeezus and the President of Pop don’t have anything concrete in the works. “[Kanye] said the exact perfect thing, which was, ‘The best way I know how to do that is just for us to sit down and play music.’ You can’t plan out.”

Kanye’s latest collaboration — with a different former Disney star, Miley Cyrus — seems to have been born from that line of thinking, as West reportedly linked up with Cyrus after the VMAs for an impromptu session to record a remix of “Black Skinhead.”
