Justin Timberlake may be the President of Pop, but Pharrell is the Sultan of Summer this year, playing key roles in the season’s two biggest hits — “Blurred Lines” and “Get Lucky” — and having a hand in current tracks by Jay Z, Azealia Banks, 2 Chainz and more. The super-producer sat down with TODAY and talked a bit about his second wave of success and how he got to pop’s upper echelon. And it turns out the thing responsible for his countless hits is cleanliness.

“I can write pretty much anywhere, but in the shower it’s like really great,” he told a totally fangirling Savannah Guthrie. “Maybe, like, a third of my catalog,” a proportion which he claimed includes Nelly‘s “Hot In Herre.”

Pharrell also opened up about his family, saying “The best song that I’ve ever co-written was my son” (wonder if he and fiancee Helen Lasichanh co-wrote that one in the shower, if you know what I mean), and he revealed that he met Chad Hugo, the other half of The Neptunes, at band camp. Watch it up top.
