Michelle Williams returns to her gospel roots on “If We Had Your Eyes” but still keeps some of the R&B flavor she picked up by hanging with bad girls Beyonce and Kelly Rowland. That melting pot of genres is reflected in the inspirational video.
The stylish outfits — our favorite holy twerker looks amazing — and slick set-ups of your typical hip-hop video are represented but there’s a much deeper message here. Destiny’s Child alum LeToya Luckett makes a cameo as a friend to a woman with psychiatric problems, while Michelle takes a lesson from a homeless man.
It’s sad that displays of love, empathy and kindness are usually restricted to religious music. Michelle expertly bridges that gap and looks fierce doing it. Watch up top and keep an eye out for the DC diva’s fourth LP Journey To Love, which drops later this year.
