Hear Jay Z On Drake’s Ethereal “Pound Cake/Paris Morton Music 2”

Pound Cake/Paris Morton Music 2,” the stretched-out closing cut on Drake‘s forthcoming Nothing Was The Same, has hit the Web. The double track clocks in at 7:45, the first half a wobbly, ethereal beat threatening to collapse under the boasts of Drizzy (“My high school reunion might be worth an appearance / Make everybody have to go through security clearance”) and Jay Z (“I had Benzes before you had braces”).

While the young Canadian MC gives Hov the mic for two minutes in the front half, the “Paris Morton” section is all Drake. It’s slightly more upbeat, but still draws on the juxtaposition between a restrained atmospheric beat and unrestrained ego. (Here Drake claims he’s the greatest of his generation [ed note: -__-] and that he’s “not doing it the same, he’s doing it better,” as if dude’s the first ever to rap over tasteful cocktail bar pianos.)

As a whole, the album closer is either a yawning epic or an epic yawn. You be the judge below.
