CHVRCHES‘ long-awaited debut album The Bones Of What You Believe drops September 24, and the Scottish synth-pop trio is streaming the album in full for the next week. We’ve already heard tracks like the ebullient “The Mother We Share,” the hyper “Gun” and the jagged “Lies,” but the LP reveals an even wider range of knob-turning tricks than we came to expect from those early, varied gems.

In fact, some of their tricks have nothing to do with all those synthetic instruments: most of “Tether” is an honest-to-God earthy ballad before exploding into EDM territory, and their melodic linchpin Lauren Mayberry takes the backseat to Martin Doherty‘s unpolished vocals on “Under The Tide.” With the surprising range comes an impressive cohesiveness — there’s a precision and clarity to their music, no matter the song’s mood.
