The Killers’ “Shot At The Night”: Hear The New M83-Produced Track

That long-awaited collaboration between The Killers and M83 is finally here. It’s an interesting marriage, since “Shot At The Night” finds synth-pop mastermind Anthony Gonzalez working with the band after they’ve pretty much abandoned their synthy New Wave roots for anthemic rock grandeur. But hey, we’ll take it!

The result basically sounds like the middle ground between those two sides of The Killers (so, in other words, a Day & Age B-side) with just an added hint of M83’s trademark “John Hughes soundtrack with better technology” flavor. What exactly does that mean? Brandon Flowers‘ keys return to the fore, but they aren’t lush synth washes like on Hot Fuss, the drums are primarily programmed and there’s some seriously ’80s guitar tone in the chorus.

Head below to hear it.

“Shot At The Night” is one of two new songs on The Killers’ just-announced greatest hits collection, Direct Hits (out November 11).
