Popping Up: G.R.L.

Overdue for a vacation? Why yes, of course you are.

Thank God — or Robin Antin, rather — for G.R.L., the latest incarnation of her girl group formula after the Pussycat Dolls went their separate ways, Girlicious went from a Canadian craze to pop ephemera and the Paradiso Girls got hyped on a little too much Patron.

But G.R.L. have the backing of an all-star roster of hitmakers — like Dr. LukeMax Martin and Bonnie McKee — plus an army of talent between their members: There’s Paradiso Girls songbird (and the vocalist on LMFAO‘s bajillion-times platinum “Party Rock Anthem”) Lauren BennettX Factor breakout star Simone Battle, Canadian YouTube sensation Emmalyn Estrada, and a pair of professional dancers — triple threat Natasha Slayton (whose bangs are unofficially the sixth member of the group, in my opinion) and professional dancer Paula Van Oppen, who danced on stage with Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. (She was also in Burlesque. ‘Nuff said.)

Since launching with their first single “Vacation,” a bubbly uptempo dance number with a wildly choreographed video to boot, the girls (grls?) have been making the rounds building buzz for their Spice Girls-style female-empowerment vibe (Mel B even makes a cameo in the “Vacation” vid) — and they stopped by Idolator headquarters to talk about the sound of their upcoming debut LP, working with Dr. Luke and their dynamic as a group.

If anyone knows where to get a GRL hat, I’d like to start wearing it to parties.

Watch up top.
