6. “Man Down” – Rihanna (2011)

Rihanna has a long list of shocking music videos, but her entry for “Man Down” from her 2010 album Loud sparks just as much gunfire as it does controversy. The video (which didn’t sit too well with the Parents Television Council for glorifying murder) shows a carefree Rihanna in Jamaica having fun with the locals and flirts with a guy in a club. Things take a turn when the man gets violent and sexually assaults her. The ending result is well-deserved payback from Rihanna — courtesy of a single gunshot.

5. “Paparazzi” – Lady Gaga (2009)

Lady Gaga was taking risks in her music videos starting from her early stages. The video for “Paparazzi” off her debut album The Fame draws inspiration from Britney Spears‘ “Toxic” (Mother Monster also poisons her lover), but takes it to a more sinister level. Gaga, who fittingly plays a doomed starlet, takes epic revenge on her boyfriend who previously tried to kill her by throwing her off a roof. The result? A dead boyfriend and a singer who is back in the spotlight.
