Ah, the MTV Europe Music Awards — they’ve never really been much about Europe, have they? (Last year’s big winners: Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, PSY, Carly Rae Jepsen, etc.) Things won’t be much different this year. The show is being staged at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome, but all the nominees in the Best Male, Best Female and Best Video (Miley, Gaga, JT, Thirty Seconds To Mars and Robin Thicke) categories hail from North America.

Keeping with that theme, Katy Perry is the first big live music performer to be announced for the event, which will take place on November 10. (Lady Gaga is said to be closing the show, via a streamed performance.) Perry is scheduled to perform her next Prism single, “Unconditionally.”

The other big, uh, “get”? Will Ferrell…but in character as Ron Burgundy. The Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues actor “will make special appearances during the awards show, reporting from various landmarks in the Dutch capital.”

How truly mind-blowing for Europe.
