Rebecca Ferguson Gets It Oh So Right With “I Hope”: Listen To The Brit’s Epic New Single

Rebecca Ferguson was positioned as the soulful alternative to Leona Lewis on debut album Heaven. The sound suited the X Factor UK runner-up’s velvety voice well enough but with a couple of exceptions — “Shoulder To Shoulder” and “Glitter & Gold” spring to mind — the songs just weren’t good enough to showcase her considerable talent.

It’s something of a relief then that everything seems to fall into place for Rebecca on “I Hope”. The lead single from the 27-year-old’s forthcoming sophomore set Freedom is basically the flip side to Emeli Sande‘s breakthrough hit “Next To You”.

Both songs boast gorgeous vocals, piano-driven, gospel-tinged production and soaring pop hooks but Rebecca’s is a well-intentioned goodbye note to an ex, while Emeli’s is a musical love letter. “I hope life treats you well, I hope that she is kind,” the smoky-voiced chanteuse sings. “I hope, I hope, I hope.” Listen to the future hit after the jump.
