M.I.A. Previews ‘Matangi’ Track “Y.A.L.A. (You Always Live Again)”: Listen

M.I.A. has twisted the Credo That Drake Built for her Matangi track “Y.A.L.A” (as in, “You Always Live Again”) which is a sly, if nonsensical, twist on the “You only live once” rallying cry of Generation Y.O.L.O. Maya posted a preview of the song on her Soundcloud, accompanied by the tweet, “If you only live once why we keep doing the same shit?”

M.I.A. spends the snippet rapping in a nasally yelp, and based on the 90-second cut, the track isn’t quite as frenetic as “Bring The Noize” or “Come Walk With Me,” but it’s got enough unhinged energy to bring to mind the dancehall rush of Major Lazer. If we learned anything from that sneaky “Come Walk With Me” teaser, though, it’s that it’s futile to judge an M.I.A. song before hearing the whole thing.

Hear a preview below, and check out M.I.A.’s tweet.

The full song will be available October 22, and Matangi drops November 5.
