Anyone expecting a sequel to gritty, emotion-churning “Love The Way You Lie” will be sorely disappointed by Eminem‘s reunion with Rihanna. “The Monster”, the duo’s much-anticipated reunion, is a fairly standard hip-hop/pop collaboration — albeit it with an all-star cast and killer hook.

“I’m friends with the monster that’s under my bed, get along with the voices inside of my head,” sings RiRi over a spooky synth hook before adding: “keep tryin’ to save me, stop holding your breath.” That’s when Em comes in and does his thing. There’s even a bit of autotune over his rap, which is switch up after raw Marshall Mathers LP 2 tracks like “Rap God” and “Survival”.

While not in the same league as their first partnership, “The Monster” is still undeniably catchy and hook-filled enough for top 40 radio success. Listen to Eminem and Rihanna go head-to-head after the jump.
