Azealia Banks Blames Pharrell For “ATM Jam” Flopping, Plots Future As Music Industry Exec

Azealia Banks continues to isolate herself from her former collaborators (previously she has called out DiploLady Gaga and Disclosure, among others). This time, she blamed the tepid response to “ATM Jam” on a lack of support from Pharrell, who is featured on the track. On Twitter this morning, Banks wrote, “The reason ATM jam did poorly is because pharell changed his mind about wanting to be associated with me after he had his lite skin comeback.”

Oh man. While it’s true Pharrell didn’t appear in the video, well, the other way to look at this is that maybe the song’s belly flop was Banks’ fault? Like, since she insists on making the mere act of enjoying her music into a chore? So that even if a track nabs a guest spot from pop’s reigning Midas, people still won’t want to hear it? Or perhaps this alternate theory nails it.

Banks let fly a few more tweets on the issue, framing herself as the scrappy artist that nobody gave a chance, before pondering her ability to become a music industry executive so she can destroy correct the system from within. Her latest Twitter stunt ended with the question “art or commerce?” which is quite timely since, over the past six months or so, she hasn’t delivered much of either.
